WITS University again failed to get a winner, recording their ninth draw in 15 matches when they were held to a goalless stalemate by SuperSport United in a Castle Premier League fixture at Milpark Stadium in Johannesburg on Tuesday night.
The most disappointing aspect of the match will be that Wits failed to score even though their opponents were a man light for the latter quarter of the match.
United’s John Moeti was given his marching orders after 76 minutes when referee George Tladi decided that a tackle on Wits’ Alois Bunjira was dangerous.
There was ample chance for each team to score, but poor finishing and good ‘keeping kept the scoreboard stagnant.
The forwards were decidedly lacking in the finishing department, and even though the match flowed well, and there was plenty of good ball available, the strikers did not join the party.
Wits started off the game misseing two key players and had to do without the service of their national under-23 midfielder Stanton Fredericks and defender Dan Masilela.
The first half saw United almost getting there with Ryan Botha’s place kick finding Garreth Orrit, but his header went wide.
Wits also kept their opponents busy. Sam Magalefa saw his header just miss off Charles Yohane’s corner in the 30th minute.
The second half continued the frustration, and not even a double substitution for Wits could break the deadlock.
