KENYAN CHAMPS BANNED FOR MATCH FIXING

KENYAN football premier league champions, Mumias Sugar, have been stripped of their title and banned from all football activities for one year for match-fixing.

The disqualification, announced on Thursday by the Kenya Football Federation’s National League and Competitions Committee, means that Mumias will not play in the African Club champions’ Cup or the African Cup Winners’ Cup.

The committee launched an inquiry earlier this week following reports that Mumias Sugar bribed players of another team, Kisumu All Stars, to throw away a match last Sunday.

Mumias Sugar needed seven clear goals in the match at their home ground in western Kenya to win the league championship, but surprisingly went on to beat the Kisumu team by 10-0 to win the league title for the first time.

Kisumu All Stars, which finished at the bottom of the 21-team league have also been suspended for one year.
