THE December death toll on South African roads has risen to 137 in 119 accidents. According to the government’s road safety monitoring unit, Arrive Alive, the North West province still has the highest death toll, with 38 killed, followed by 26 in KwaZulu-Natal. Fatality figures in other provinces were: Free State 23, Northern Province 20, Mpumalanga 17, Eastern Cape 15, Gauteng 14, Western Cape 12, and Northern Cape, eight.
