ROAD DEATHS SOAR

THE road death toll since the start of the holiday season on December 1 has surged towards the 650 mark, well over the number of road deaths the same time last year. Two people were killed and six others injured after a vehicle they were travelling in collided with a goods train at the Mare railway crossing near Louis Trichardt on Monday afternoon. Five people were killed and 17 others were injured when a bus in which they were travelling overturned near Riegel Park in Gauteng on Monday night. In yet another incident, four people were killed and six others injured after two cars collided on the R27 road near Ysterfontein in the Western Cape. The injured were taken to local hospitals in a serious condition.
