AID WORKER MURDERED IN SOMALIA

AN engineer employed in Somalia by the aid agency CARE International was shot dead in an ambush on Sunday night while driving north of Mogadishu to check on rehabilitation projects.

Shueb Mohamed Hussein was ambushed by members of the Abgal clan, who later returned his vehicle, marked with CARE International stickers. Abgal leader Imam Mohamud Imam Omer has condemned the killing and urged aid agencies not to halt their work because of the actions of “dirty gunmen”.

In another incident, armed men looted a warehouse belonging to the UN World Food Programme in the southern port of Merca on Sunday. Four men have been arrested.
