OWN CORRESPONDENT, Lagos | Thursday 4.30pm.
AN inspection team from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given pass marks to the two Nigerian stadiums that will stage the 22nd African Nations Cup from January 23.
“Everything we have seen so far has been positive,” said the leader of the two-man team, General Zoumaro Gnofane of Togo.
The team, which arrived in Nigeria on Sunday, visited both the National Stadium, Lagos and the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
The National Stadium built in 1973, will stage Nigeria’s first round matches as well as the final of the Nations Cup on February 13. It has an all-seat capacity of 39000.
The Sani Abacha Stadium, which will host Group C games involving Egypt, Zambia, Burkina Faso and Senegal, has an all-seat capacity for 14000 spectators.
