THE Natal Rugby Union plans to host a tribute match for former South African international and skipper Gary Teichmann in Durban on June 3. Teichmann, however, will turn out in the match in the kit of his new Welsh club Newport as they clash with Natal. “This is an opportunity to honour his service and dedication to the game of rugby,” NRU CEO Brian van Zyl said. “Natal rugby enjoyed being part of Gary’s career … and it is fantastic for us to host Gary and his current club.” Teichmann, who joined Newport after he was axed from the Springbok squad ahead of last year’s World Cup, described the match as an honour. “It is a great opportunity for Newport to come out to South Africa and experience playing in front of the Natal supporters. I have enjoyed my time at Newport so far and am looking forward to playing again in Durban.”
