WELFARE and Population Development Minister Zola Skweyiya unveiled a five-year plan on Friday to ensure that welfare services are accessible to the poorest of the poor. The new plan aims to restore ethics of care and human development and promote the culture of volunteerism. The department will also design an integrated poverty-eradication strategy and develop a comprehensive social security system. He said the department will provide a range of services to assist people affected with HIV/AIDS. Skweyiya said serices for people with disabilities will also be scrutinised and redesigned. He said the department, together with all interested parties, wants to translate Thabo Mbeki’s call for a caring society into reality.
