SUSPECT IN COURT FOR FAIRHEAD MURDERS

ONE of the three suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Brenda Fairhead, 55, and her daughter Kia, 11, appeared in the Port Alfred Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, SABC radio news reported. The 16-year-old suspect’s evidence was heard in camera. Police are formulating murder, robbery and kidnapping charges against him. His mother asked that he should not be released into her custody as she would not be able to exercise control over him. It was decided that the suspect would remain in custody in Grahamstown until his next court appearance on February 2. Two other suspects, aged 19 and 21, will appear in court on Thursday. It is alleged that the three suspects drove Fairhead and her daughter to the Keiskamma Pass where they were strangled and thrown down a ravine.
