THE government plans to privatise thousands of properties and fixed assets from its R120-billion property portfolio.
Business Report quotes Public Works Minister Stella Sigcau as saying that the government intends to dispose of all redundant state-owned houses within the first half of this year.
Sigcau is also reported to have said she hopes that some of the proceeds could be retained by her department, while the bulk would go to the treasury.
The Department of Public Enterprises is separately in the process of privatising and restructuring state-owned assets worth an estimated R170-billion, a process which has released more than R11-billion so far.
Meanwhile, Sharon Hammond
reports that the privatisation of three Northern Province game reserves is expected to generate R70-million in investment, Provincial Tourism MEC Thaba Mufamadi said on Friday.
The province recently issued tenders to privatise the tourist facilities at Manyaleti, Letaba and Andover game reserves that border the Kruger National Park. The process is part of the Phalaborwa Spatial Development Initiative, which aims to attract investment to the province that is poorest in the country.
