THE Confederation of African Football has halved the $10000 fine imposed on African Nations Cup co-hosts Nigeria on Tuesday after unruly behaviour by their fans in Lagos, a senior official said on Wednesday. No reasons were given for the reduction announced by CAF in Lagos following a second incident at the national stadium, which witnessed an invasion of the pitch by jubilant supporters after Nigeria scored in their quarter-final against Senegal on Monday. Nigeria were also fined $2000 last week after an angry crowd threw objects onto the field during a goalless draw with Congo during the opening round group matches. Tuesday’s statement by CAF said the co-hosts were fined $10000 after a “most regrettable and totally unacceptable” incident but this has now been halved after consultation with CAF president Issa Hayatou, who has been in Accra, Ghana, officials said.
