Hussain keeps up pressure in one-dayers

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Bulawayo | Sunday 7.00pm.

ENGLAND captain Nasser Hussain warned Zimbabwe there was no chance of his side easing up after winning their third one-day match by 85 runs on Sunday.

The result puts the tourists 3-0 up in the four-match series with the final game in Harare on Wednesday.

It also evens up England’s dismal record in Zimbabwe before the series which read played three, lost three.

Hussain says he is determined his side will maintain their level of performance through to the last match of a four-month tour of southern Africa.

Hussain was delighted with the application of his players as they neared the end of the tour.

The England victory was built on the all-round performance of Graeme Hick, the Zimabwean-born Englishman scoring a fluent 80 and then picking up five wickets for the first time in his one-day international career.

Collecting the man-of-the-match award for the second time in the series, Hick said: ””I was hoping to have at least one good game out of the two here.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was that Hick’s occasional off-spinners caused as much damage as they did, although he admitted the wicket had helped.

Hamilton have played a game since England began their long series of one-day games in South Africa last month.

There is mounting pressure on the selectors to give the pair a chance in the final game on Wednesday, but England coach Duncan Fletcher is adamant that there will be no changes simply for the sake of it. — Reuters
