Dumitru quits Pirates

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Tuesday 1.35pm.

ORLANDO Pirates coach Ted Dumitru has quit.

Dumitru, former Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns coach, is in Namibia to conduct a coaching course en route to New York where he will be attending a sports conference.

Romanian-born Dumitru told The Sowetan that “it’s over between Pirates and me, ” apparently because of the club’s failure to meet “some very fundamental obligations.”

The multiple award winning coach said that his move was about “far more” than money, and added that he could “no longer allow myself to be exploited the way Stix (former Safa president Solomon Morewa) did.”

Dumitru said that his whereabouts are well-known to Pirates’ management, and denied that he is in Namibia to take over as national coach from Peter Uberjahn who resigned two weeks ago.
