FIVE BLACK EDITORS TO ATTEND RACISM HEARING

FIVE black editors have decided to attend the SA Human Rights Commission’s hearings into racism in the media with or without being subpoenaed. Business Day reports that the editors are Kaizer Nyatsumba of Durban-based Daily News; Mike Siluma of the Sowetan; Charles Mogale of Sunday World; Cyril Madlala of The Independent on Saturday; and Lakela Kaunda of the Evening Post, who is the chairman of the SA National Editors’ Forum (Sanef). Business Day report that, adding another twist to the issue, the Media Monitoring Project (MMP) – the research company that investigated racism in the media and produced a report for the commission – will not be participating in the hearings.
