A CAPE man who made five death threats to President Thabo Mbeki was found guilty in the Cape regional Court on Wednesday. The man, Theo James Keown, 50, pleaded guilty, but did not say why he made the threats. Keown called Tuynhuys on May 26 last year and told a presidential staffer that he wanted to shoot Mbeki — then deputy president. The other four calls were made the next day when Keown phoned the presidential office at Tuynhuys and the Athlone offices of the African National Congress. Keown faces a maximum penalty of a fine of R40000, ten years in prison, or both.
