CAPE Town professional James Loughnane, who plays under the Irish flag, ground out a superb six under-par 67 to go with his first round 69 and take a one shot lead at the halfway stage of the R500000 Stanbic Zambia Open here at the Lusaka Golf Club. Loughnane, the winner here in 1997, is ten under-par, a stroke clear of overnight leader Bradford Vaughan. The round of the day though came from Soweto Country Club’s Thabang Simon who carded a magnificent seven under-par 66. Simon is one shot ahead of Andre Cruse, who is a further stroke in front of a group at three under which includes defending champion Marc Cayeux and 17 year-old Zambian amateur, Madaliso Muthiya.
