ANOTHER CYCLONE HEADS FOR MOZ

METEOROLOGISTS have warned that tropical cyclone Hudah is heading for Mozambique, still battling to recover from the devastating floods of February. Mussa Mustafa, spokesman of the National Institute of Meteorology, said that although the cyclone is weakening “it could intensify after reaching our channel (between Madagascar and Mozambique) due to high water temperatures”. The cyclone hit the northwestern part of the already beleaguered Indian Ocean island of Madagascar overnight on Sunday, with winds of up to 300km/h. Mustafa said the cyclone, which is currently travelling at 26km/h, is due to hit the northern Mozambican coastal provinces of Cabo Delgado and Nampula on Tuesday, bringing heavy rains and winds of about 100km/h for about three days. Hudah is also expected to influence the weather in northern Niassa and Tete provinces and Sofala province in already flood-stricken central Mozambique.
