SACRHOME IN R2bn STEEL DEAL

SOUTH African Chrome and Alloys (Sachrome) said on Friday it has concluded a R2,3-billion five year takeoff agreement with a German steel maker. Sachrome said in a statement that the agreement with Thyssenkrupp Metallurgie AG provided for the annual purchase and distribution of up to 170000 tons of its ferrochrome for an initial five years, starting in July, 2001. Thyssenkrupp has annual sales in excess of $32-billion and is the world’s largest producer of stainless steel. Sachrome was trading 3,6% higher on the JSE in early afternoon trade.
