THE Democratic Republic of Congo and the Congo are planning to launch a joint bid to host the 2004 African Cup of Nations. An agreement was signed last Saturday between the respective ministers of sport from the neighboring countries with the view to presenting a formal bid to the African football Confederation. If the bid is successful, matches will be played in Brazzaville and in Kinshasa, the respective capitals of the two countries. The biggest football tournament in Africa is played every two years and the recent 2000 edition was co-hosted by Nigeria and Ghana and was won by Cameroon.
