DEON POTGIETER, Johannesburg | Tuesday 5.30pm
MIKE Bernardo’s on-again off-again WBF heavyweight world title fight is on again.
Bernardo, a former kick boxing world champion will meet Britain’s Wayne Llewellyn on May 12 for the vacant title in Hungary.
Following numerous futile attempts by promoter Thinus Strydom to secure local sponsorship and television coverage for the bout, he was forced to move the bout abroad.
Eurosport, who recently broadcast the infamous Henry Akinwande fight in Cape Town, will televise the bout to 56 countries, but not South Africa.
Bernardo is the favourite to win the title.
This brings to three the number of South Africans to feature in heavyweight world title fights in the next 3 months.
Corrie Sanders defends the more respected WBU heavyweight world title for the fourth time on May 20 in Atlantic City and Frans Botha takes on Lennox Lewis in London on July 15.
