SOUTH Africa’s Eddie Barlow, in hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage last week, has been replaced as Bangladesh’s national coach by a local cricketer, a report said Wednesday. Sarwar Imram, currently in the leading Dhaka club Abahani Limited, will coach the Bangladesh team in the four-nation Asia Cup cricket, the official BSS news agency said, quoting Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) sources. The 10-day limited-overs tournament which begins in Dhaka on May 28 involves Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Barlow has been recovering at an intensive care unit of Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital where he was admitted on April 29 after he collapsed at his residence in the Gulshan diplomatic district. His condition then was announced as stable, but sports officials said left side of his body remained paralysed. Barlow joined the BCB early this year as cricket coach for Bangladesh. There was no official word on his latest condition, but press reports this week indicated he might go abroad for further treatment.
