A BABY boom has left the Hurricanes depleted ahead of their Super 12 game against the Stormers in Cape Town on Sunday. Prop Gordon Slater and winger Tana Umaga are on “baby leave” awaiting the birth of their partners’ children. To make matters worse, winger Jonah Lomu is suspended for two weeks while hooker and captain Norm Hewitt is doubtful because of injury. Hewitt strained a calf muscle in his side’s 27-20 win over the Warratahs and was rated only a 50-50 chance. A decision on whether he plays could be made as late as Sunday morning. “It’s still in the early stages of Norm’s treatment but the initial outlook wasn’t that great,” coach Graham Mourie said. Positive news for the Hurricanes was that number eight Gordon Falcon should return for his first game since dislocating his shoulder on March 11. Outside centre Jason O’Halloran is also back after missing last weekend’s game through injury. With two rounds to go, the Hurricanes are fourth on the Super 12 table with 28 points behind the Brumbies (36), Crusaders (33) and the Blues (28).
