BANGLADESH’S South African cricket coach Eddie Barlow, who suffered a brain haemorrhage last month, is on his way back to South Africa.
Barlow left Dhaka for Singapore on Tuesday for further treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official said.
He will remain there for a week before flying home to Cape Town.
Barlow also said on Tuesday that he is disappointed at not being able to join the celebrations when Bangladesh is granted Test status by the International Cricket Council which is likely to approve Bangladesh as the 10th test playing nation next month.
“I’ve had some memorable days here and it’s such bad luck that I won’t be able to join Bangladesh’s millions of enthusiastic cricket fans when they celebrate the country’s elevation to Test status,” said Barlow before leaving in an ambulance for the airport.
Barlow, the 59-year-old former South African Test opener, replaced Gordon Greenidge as Bangladesh coach last year. The BCB has appointed Sarwar Imran, a local coach, to lead the team in the Asia Cup in Dhaka later this month.
