Chiefs sink tenacious Bush Bucks 3-1

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Cape Town | Friday 1.30pm

BUSH Bucks were on the receiving end on Thursday night when they were hammered 3-1 by Kaizer Chiefs who kept up their title drive in a BobSave semi-final clash at Johannesburg Stadium.

Chiefs scored two goals in extra-time (one in each half), after Thabang Lebese drew first blood for the Amakhosi with a fine strike that came after a sluggish start.

Bush Bucks didn’t take the blow lying down, however, and Mongezi Malashe equalised in the 93rd minute when he drilled one past Chiefs’ ‘keeper Brian Baloyi.

Once it got to extra time Chiefs upped the tempo and outclassed the visitors by some margin with star defender Jacob Tshisheve and midfield maestro Thabo Mooki scoring to put the result beyond doubt.

The first goal of extra time by Tshisheve was missed by most of the fans on the far side as they were engrossed in an on-field brawl between a stadium official and a spectator which turned rather savage.

In the end, Bush Bucks didn’t deserve to lose by such a wide margin, as their performance at times was excellent, but in the end it was Chiefs’ Siyabonga Nomvete who made the difference. The classy striker was just too fast and too good to keep out of range for long.
