SEVEN miners have been killed in an explosion at the Beatrix No 1 shaft near Welkom in the Free State. A spokesman for Gold Fields said the explosion happened at about 3am on Monday morning, about 870m below the surface. It is unclear at the moment what caused the explosion. The names of the dead have not been released.
