Sundowns beat Pirates 3-0

OWN CORRRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Saturday 5.30pm.

WITH only 10 minutes remaining and their team 3-0 down, Pirates fans aimed a barrage of missiles at the referee, their own players and the Sundowns players causing this Premier Soccer League match to be halted as officials tried to restore calm.

The disruption didn’t improve matters for the home team and Sundowns ran out 3-0 winners celebrating their status as champions in style with this emphatic performance at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Sundowns skipper Daniel Madau scored a record-breaking brace in the first half eclipsing Chippa Masinga’s long-standing goalscoring record for the club.

Madua also moved closer to the R40000 prize on offer for the top scorer in the league by moving alongside Dennis Lota on 17 goals apiece.

The eagerly-anticipated duel between Lota and Madua did not materialise with the Pirates hitman struggling to break down a well-organised Sundowns defence.

Madau on the other hand thrived on a surplus of possession and scored the first of his two goals in the 10th minute, latching onto a Marc Batchelor flick from a Roger Feutmba corner.

Sundowns continued to pressurise a jaded-looking Pirates defence and it came as no surprise when Madau added his second, firing the ball into the back of a crowded net after a goalmouth mele.
