FOR two months a 27-year-old man allegedly managed to pass himself off as a court orderly in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court by dressing up in a police uniform with a false police ID card and a toy gun. But police caught up with him last week, when they arrested him in a shop in the Mpumalanga capital. Edward Masinga went back to court on Thursday – this time to appear in the dock, on charges of illegally posing as a police officer. He was refused bail and was remanded in custody until July 11. Investigating officer Sergeant John Mabunda said he was shocked to learn that Masinga had worked in the court for two months without raising any suspicions. “His duties included keeping order in court and transporting convicted prisoners to cells,” Mabunda said. When Masinga was arrested, he was allegedly in possession of police card belonging to Sergeant Solomon Nyoni of the Nelspruit detective unit.
