SHARES in Datatec jumped on Tuesday after the IT group announced that its US subsidiary Westcon Group has acquired a voice-data convergence technology company. The counter was up 3,22%, or 145 cents, to R46,45 at 1pm, with 298612 shares changing hands. The rise outperformed the information technology sector, which was last up 0,39% to 938. Datatec said in a statement its New York-based global channel provider, the Westcon Group, has acquired Inacom Communications CCA Technologies. The two acquisition are major distributors of Lucent Technologies’ voice products. Datatec said the acquisitions will be funded in cash from Westcon’s internal facilities. The deal is subject to US regulatory approvals.
