Uncle Finance coughs up

Financial guru Magnus OUncle FinanceO Heystek this week finally paid the taxed costs incurred by the Mail & Guardian in defending itself against a defamation case he had brought. Heystek withdrew from his much-publicised legal action and agreed to pay the newspaperOs costs before the matter was due to go to court. The M&GOs lawyers, Cheadle, Thompson and Haysom, had had to threaten to seize HeystekOs assets to recover the outstanding money. The payment brings to an end for now a saga that started in 1999 when the M&G ran a series of articles about Heystek and his involvement in the financial affairs of some clients.
