A CAPE Town policewoman has been shot and wounded while getting off a bus in Nyanga, one of the city’s townships where taxi operators have targeted buses in a bitter turf war, say police. The 24-year-old constable was hit in the leg and side, but police say it is not clear whether the shooting was related to a four-month-old turf war in the townships or whether “somebody wanted to rob her of her firearm.” Seven people have been killed and dozens injured in shootings in Cape Town’s townships since April, when taxi outfits demanded that public bus company Golden Arrow slash its services to the townships. Last week a hired hit man was convicted on three counts of murder and 32 of attempted murder relating to the transport war.
