A NORTHERN Province mining supervisor accused of shooting dead a farm worker while taking pot-shots at a beer can has been released on R1 500 bail by the Phalaborwa Magistrate’s Court. Byron Dennis, 46, of the Phalaborwa Mining Company, was not asked to plead on a murder charge and the case was postponed to October 3 for further investigation. The arresting policeman in the case faces internal disciplinary charges, however, for not arresting Dennis immediately when the matter was reported. Dennis allegedly shot farm labourer Simon Ndlovu, 45, dead while target shooting at a drinking party hosted by the owner of Rhoda farm on Saturday. Dennis had been using a .22 rifle to shoot at an empty beer tin. – African Eye News Service
