COURT TO DECIDE FATE OF MINISTER

A COURT in Malawi has finished hearing a case of alleged corruption by sacked government minister Brown Mpinganjira and is expected to hand down its ruling on January 16. Mpinganjira, who says the case against him is based on trumped-up charges, was charged on four counts of corruption amounting to $2_000 when he was education minister two years ago. Mpinganjira, one of the founder members of the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) of President Bakili Muluzi, has been expelled from the party for “actions that smacked of rebellion”. – AFP
