THREE people were killed and 30 others injured on Sunday when a vehicle was driven, apparently deliberately, into a crowd of supporters of a candidates in Uganda’s presidential elections, police said. A pick-up truck ploughed into the throng of people who had gathered to welcome presidential candidate Kizza Besigye to their area east of Kampala. Policeman Eric Naigambi said that the driver of the vehicle had gone past the crowd before returning and driving into the group of people. Naigambi said that some of those injured were picked from the nearby bushes and taken to Kampala’s Mulago hospital. – AFP
