TELKOM KENYA WORKERS ASK COURT TO STOP SALE

EMPLOYEES of state-owned Telkom Kenya have asked a court to stop the sale of a 49% stake of the company to a foreign strategic investor. The union of Posts and Telecommunication Employees of Kenya (PTEK) said it was concerned the welfare of its 11 500 members will be violated if the sale is allowed to proceed. Last week Zimbabwe’s mobile phone operator Econet Wireless Holdings said a consortium it leads had won the right to buy 49% of Telkom Kenya. Econet’s other partners in the consortium are Dutch KPN and South Africa’s Eskom Enterprises. – Reuters
