WITS University’s Student Representative Council will undergo HIV tests in public, hoping to encourage students to do the same. SRC Vice-President John Kuhn said while there was a perception that between 25 and 40% of South African students were HIV positive, these figures were not proven statistics. “Students need to start testing so that we have a more objective grasp of the magnitude of the pandemic,” he said. The tests would be conducted outside the university’s signature building – Central Block – on Thursday afternoon.
