TERRE?BLANCHE?S LAST DAYS OF FREEDOM

RIGHTWINGER Eugene Terre’Blanche will enjoy his last day of freedom on Sunday before starting a jail sentence for attempted murder on Monday afternoon. North West police served a notice of incarceration on him on Friday afternoon and he is to report to the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court before 3pm on Monday. Superintendent Louis Jacobs said Terre’Blanche will then be taken to the Potchefstroom prison where he will start serving a six-year sentence for attempted murder. It was not yet clear whether he would stay at the Potchefstroom prison or be transferred to Rooigrond near Mafikeng, where he was jailed last year. Terre’Blanche’s lawyer, Dawie de Jager said his client would spend the weekend with his family and on his farm. “When you have to go to jail, it is natural that you would want to spend as much time as possible with your family,” he said. The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein on Wednesday upheld Terre’Blanche’s 1997 conviction and six-year sentence for attempting to murder security guard Paul Motshabi in March 1996. Last year he served half of a 12-month sentence for assaulting petrol attendant John Ndzima eight months after the attack on Motshabi.
