ZIM STUDENTS ACCUSE POLICE OF KILLING YOUTH

STUDENT leaders at the University of Zimbabwe on Monday accused police of storming campus dormitories and beating a student to death, after dousing the residence hall with teargas after dark. Batanai Hadzizi was pronounced dead on arrival at the Trauma Center, said Brilliant Mhlanga, secretary general of the student union. Hadzizi was in his room when riot police broke in and began flogging him, Mhlanga told a news conference. Police representative Bothwell Mugariri said the student, whom he declined to identify, was trampled to death after police fired teargas to break up a protest on campus. – AFP
