BEHIND RAZOR WIRE, RUGBY PLAYERS IN COURT

HUNDREDS of angry demonstrators chanted and danced outside a South African court reinforced with razor-wire on Wednesday as nine white rugby players appeared on charges of murdering a black teenage poacher. Magistrate Ronnie Rambau ordered the nine, all members of the northern Noordelikes Rugby Club who have been in the cells since their arrest on March 26, to remain in custody until a new hearing on April 18. The accused, some with bloodshot eyes and unshaven faces, showed little emotion. Outside, the demonstrators brandished anti-Afrikaner placards and vented their frustration by singing liberation songs and sporadically shaking the double layer of razor-wire. – AFP
