TWO men convicted for the murder of a senior policeman in 1999 were on Thursday each sentenced to 15 years in jail by the Umtata High Court . Ncedile Dana, 43, and Morris Sophangisa, 33, from Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape, were found guilty of murdering Senior Superintendent Zola Sigotyana, who was gunned down on September 26, 1999. Six spent 9mm pistol cartridges were found next to his body. Pleading in mitigation, advocate FS Gagela said he conceded that the killing was gruesome and deserved condemnation by the courts, but urged the court to take into account that neither accused pulled the trigger. State advocate Jacques Cilliers said although the accused did not pull the trigger, they should be convicted on the grounds of the common purpose doctrine.
