POLICE in Swaziland said on Thursday they had arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with the murders of 29 people, mostly women, whose bodies were found buried in shallow graves in a forest. Four babies were among the dead. Some of the women’s bodies were found lying face down with their hands tied behind their backs, and about half the bodies had been decapitated, police said. Some of the victims appeared to have been sexually abused before being killed. Most of the bodies were naked and used condoms were found near some of the graves. The man, arrested in the southern town of Nhlangano, was not immediately charged, police representative Ross Maseko said. He did not give the man’s name, but said he was a Swazi citizen. “We cannot say that the man confessed to the killing, but he is being very cooperative with the police in their investigations. From the responses, we are positive that he is responsible for the killings,” Maseko said. – AFP
