SWAZI POLICE GRILL REPORTER

SWAZILAND police questioned a local journalist for more than two hours on Tuesday demanding to know which sources in the royal household leaked information regarding King Mswati III’s alleged poisoning. Three policemen collected journalist Thulani Mthethwa from the Guardian of Swaziland offices in Mbabane and took him to police headquarters for questioning. “They called on my loyalty and said the information would help them in their investigations into problems in the royal house,” said Mthethwa. “I told them I was not their informant and that if they didn’t like it, they would have to take me to court.” Mthethwa was one of the first journalists to break the story on the absolute monarch’s illness and report allegations linking Queen Sibonelo Mngomezulu to the poisoning. – African Eye News Service
