PRO-GOVT ZIM HEAVIES TARGET ORPHANAGE

MILITANT pro-government “war veterans” have targetted the offices of European-funded orphanages in Zimbabwe, as part of a campaign of intimidation in the nation’s cities, an aid agency director said on Friday. War veterans visited the suburban offices of SOS Children’s Villages Zimbabwe on Thursday seeking to discuss the dismissal of an employee, said Ian Kluckow. Kluckow, a Zimbabwean national who heads the operation, said the war vets had asked to meet with him, but he was away. He has closed the agency’s offices on Friday and told his staff to work from home next week. “I received a visit because these veterans wanted to discuss the case with me. And I will not discuss the case with them because they are an illegitimate group … I think that would be quite improper to hand over money destined for children to a group that has no legal standing.”
