LIBYAN leader Colonel Muammar Gadaffi has told German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder’s chief foreign policy adviser, Michael Steiner, that Libya was behind the 1986 bombing of a Berlin disco in which three people were killed, the daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported on Tuesday. The newspaper reported that a law practice which represents survivors of the attack and victims’ families, plans to apply to the Berlin court hearing the La Belle disco case to call Steiner as a witness. It said that the report of Kadhafi’s admission came from a communique sent by the German embassy in Washington to the German foreign ministry and leaked to the attorneys. The attorneys expect Steiner to testify that Gadaffi told him personally that Libya had masterminded the disco bombing, which also injured some 200 people. US President Ronald Reagan ordered the bombing of the Libyan cities of Tripoli and Bengasi following the Berlin attack.
