MATHS TEACHER IN COURT OVER DRUGS

A RESPECTED maths teacher has been arrested for allegedly being in possession of 1 000 ecstasy tablets which police believe he was selling to schoolchildren, The Sunday Times reports. Mohamed Essop, who previously taught at an exclusive Christian private school in Johannesburg and now gives private lessons, appeared in court this week on charges of drug dealing and was released on R10_000 bail. He was not asked to plead. The arrest came as the principal of Jeppe High School for Boys in Johannesburg, Kevin Tait, confirmed that first one Grade 10 boy, then three others, were questioned in his office, in the presence of parents and police over drug use. A small quantity of dagga – two wrapped “stops” and some loose dagga in a plastic bag – was also found.
