SIX KILLED IN FIGHTING IN SOMALI CAPITAL

AT least six people were killed and 13 wounded after fighting erupted in south Mogadishu on Thursday, witnesses and medical sources said. The clashes pitted militiamen of Somali warlord Hussein Mohamed Aidid against Somali Transitional National Government (TNG) policemen, the witness said. A medical officer said two people were killed and four wounded after a mortar shell landed at a residential house in south Mogadishu’s Tokyo neighbourhood. Residents in the area said that the fighting started after a TNG policemen tried to launch security operations in the area, inhabited mainly by supporters of Aidid. – AFP
