GERMANY has pledged 87-million dinars ($59-million) in aid to Tunisia to be spent on environmental, industry and water projects, the Tunisian news agency TAP reported Monday. The accord, covering the period 2001-02, was signed at the weekend by Uschi Eid, a senior official of the German economic cooperation ministry, the official news agency said. State Secretary Eid also discussed bilateral cooperation and relations between Tunisia and the European Union on Monday at meetings with Tunisian Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi and Foreign Minister Habib Ben Yahia. She examined Tunisian environmental and water management projects Sunday at the town of Beja, west of Tunis. Germany is the second largest direct foreign investor in Tunisia. More than a million German tourists visit Tunisia every year. -AFP
