THIRD TERMISM STRIKES MALAWI

THE United Democratic Front (UDF) has, through various functionaries last week confirmed that President Bakili Muluzi will stand as presidential candidate again in 2004 after indicating that he has proved to be the only leader capable of obtaining, for the UDF a successive 3rd term in government. According to UDF Regional Governor for the Centre, Uladi Mussa, Muluzi will stand again in the Elections in 2004 because people want him to rule this country for forty years. Mussa, speaking at a party rally in Salima which was broadcast live on the state run MBC radio last Thursday declared that Muluzi is the candidate for the UDF in 2004 because there is no one else who can lead the party. Muluzi during his address neither agreed to nor denied the various announcements made despite Mussa saying there was a move to amend the constitution to allow this to take place. – The Chronicle
