FRENCHMAN KILLED BY ELEPHANT IN KENYA

A FRENCH tourist was attacked and killed by an angry elepant he was filming in southern Kenya’s Tsavo East national park, officials said on Friday. The Kenya Tourist Federation said in a statement that Jacques Boxberger (52) was trampled to death by the elephant at a picnic site in Tsavo where he had gone with his wife and child on Thursday. “Mr Boxberger walked to about 200m from where the elephant was, away from the picnic site, and tried to photograph the lone male elephant,” the statement said. The pachyderm held Boxberger with its trunk, tossed him twice at a nearby tree before dropping him to the ground and trampling him to death. A witness said: “After the lunch at the picnic site, the French family went down towards the riverbed where they noticed the lone elephant and began shooting a video. “The elephant moved away, but they followed it for about 200 metres when it turned around and attacked them,” he added. The family tried to flee, but the elephant caught up with the man. – AFP
