40 PEOPLE BURN TO DEATH IN ZAMBIA BUS SMASH

ABOUT 40 people burned to death in a bus crash in central Zambia, the third fatal bus crash in less than a month, the state-run Sunday Mail newspaper said. The accident happened Saturday in Kapiri Mposhi, a small Zambian town about 200 kilometers north of the capital Lusaka. At least 40 people burned to death while 34 others were admitted to hospital after the bus in which they were travelling caught fire, the paper said. The 76-seater bus crashed after a front tyre burst, causing it to slide off the road, creating friction that led to the fire, witnesses at the scene told the paper. – AFP
