The Green Trust is a partnership between the World Wide Fund for Nature-South Africa and Nedbank. Funded pri-marily through contributions made by Nedbank Green banking clients, the trust has raised more than R37-million for conservation projects.
These are some of the projects currently funded by The Green Trust.
Trees for Africa
The Green Trust has been funding basic salaries for Trees for Africa since 1992. This organisation supports a wide range of tree planting and other greening activities, predominantly in townships in Gauteng and the Western Cape. Products from this support include community nurseries, school greening, permaculture and urban parks.
Abalimi Bezekhaya: Greening the Cape Flats
The main focus of this project is in support of the annual Arbour Day activities in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats near Cape Town. Abalimi Bezekhaya supports grass-roots community action in order to transform this sandy urban desert into a productive green environment.
Wild Dog Conservation
The wild dog is one of three endangered mammals in South Africa. The focus of this project is the conservation of the species in Kwazulu-Natal but will also contribute to the broader regional programme. Additional wild dogs have been introduced to the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park population and the project aims to study a free-ranging pack outside protected areas in the province.
